Descriptions

The Linear Garden at George Town Esplanade transforms a 0.7 acre seafront open space into a vibrant green corridor along the Northern Seafront. Conceived as a linear park, the project strengthens the connection between the city and the coastline while introducing a continuous landscape that supports both movement and pause.

The design is anchored by a framework of local, climate-resilient trees that provide shade, improve comfort, and establish a strong visual identity along the waterfront. These planting strategies contribute to the creation of a green lung within the urban setting, enhancing the microclimate and offering a more pleasant environment for visitors throughout the day.

Craftsmanship plays an important role in shaping the character of the space. Local traditional craftsmen were engaged in the construction of key landscape elements, ensuring that materials and detailing reflect the cultural context and heritage of George Town.

Through a series of simple yet deliberate interventions, the Linear Garden introduces a flexible public space that accommodates walking, gathering, and quiet enjoyment of the sea. The project reinforces the Esplanade as a civic landscape where heritage, craftsmanship, and the coastal environment come together in a cohesive and enduring manner.
