Descriptions

The Lebuh Light Avenue project upgrades a 100 metre pedestrian corridor along one of George Town’s most significant historical protocol roads, strengthening its role as a ceremonial and civic space within the Northern Seafront.

The design focuses on enhancing the pedestrian experience by reallocating space to prioritise greenery and walkability. Existing conditions were carefully reconfigured to create more generous planting zones, improving soil conditions and supporting the long-term health and vitality of the avenue’s trees. This intervention contributes to a cooler, more comfortable microclimate while reinforcing the avenue’s green character.

A key aspect of the project is the re-establishment of important visual corridors, particularly the axial views towards the Queen Victoria Memorial Clock Tower. By decluttering the streetscape and refining spatial organisation, the design restores the prominence of this historic landmark within the urban setting.

Through subtle yet deliberate interventions, the project elevates Lebuh Light Avenue as a dignified pedestrian boulevard where heritage, landscape, and civic identity are brought together in a cohesive and enduring manner.
