Descriptions

The Kuan Yin Teng Courtyard Garden project transforms an underutilised inner courtyard within Penang’s oldest temple into a tranquil and contemplative garden space. Set within a site of deep cultural and spiritual significance, the intervention is guided by a sensitive approach that respects both the architectural heritage and religious context of the temple.

The design introduces a lush, intimate landscape that offers a moment of calm within the dense urban fabric of George Town. Carefully curated planting softens the courtyard edges, creating a serene atmosphere that supports quiet reflection and spiritual pause. The spatial arrangement is deliberately restrained, allowing the garden to complement rather than compete with the surrounding historic structures.

Through minimal yet deliberate interventions, the courtyard is redefined as a meaningful inner garden where heritage, spirituality, and landscape come together in a quiet and respectful dialogue.
