The Jalan Burmah Gateway Marker project reimagines and activates a 50 metre stretch along Burma Road in Pulau Tikus, establishing a distinct urban identity at a key neighbourhood threshold.

​

The design introduces a series of spatial and sculptural elements that draw on themes of myth-making and collective memory, reflecting the layered histories and cultural narratives associated with the area. Rather than a conventional gateway, the intervention is conceived as an experiential marker that signals arrival while inviting curiosity and engagement.

Subtle landscape enhancements and carefully positioned features transform the previously overlooked streetscape into a more legible and expressive public space. The composition creates moments of pause and visual interest along the corridor, contributing to the everyday experience of pedestrians and motorists alike.

Through this approach, the project strengthens the sense of place within Pulau Tikus, turning a transitional stretch of road into a meaningful urban marker that connects memory, identity, and movement within the city.
