Descriptions

The Armenian Park Backlane project reimagines a network of historic backlanes located behind Armenian Park within the George Town World Heritage Site. The project transforms these once underutilised service lanes into a welcoming public realm that complements the surrounding cultural and heritage environment.

Through careful upgrading and spatial enhancement, the design introduces a seamless blend of traditional materials and contemporary construction techniques. Stone paving, subtle landscape elements, and improved lighting create a comfortable pedestrian environment while respecting the historic character of the area.

The revitalised backlanes now serve as a quiet urban corridor that supports walking, informal gathering, and everyday public life. By enhancing connectivity and preserving the atmosphere of the historic streetscape, the project contributes to the ongoing effort to strengthen George Town’s heritage setting while bringing renewed vitality to its urban fabric.
